On the 6th April 2012 RIDDOR changed the point at which time related injuries are reported.
Employers must now report an injury when the person is incapacitated for seven days (not counting the day of the incident), rather than three which was the previous trigger point for reporting under RIDDOR. Incapacitation means that a worker is absent or unable to do the work that they would reasonably be expected to do as part of their normal daily duties.
Employers must still record 3 day injuries under RIDDOR; however an accident book record will be sufficient. Seven day injuries must be reported within 15 days from the date of the incident using the normal reporting procedures as outlined under RIDDOR.
